Furnace Making Noise - Fix Blower Motor by Dave Wirth
We had a strange squealing noise coming from our furnace one morning, so loud that we could hear it from upstairs. The most common cause of the noise is from one of the blower motors. Specifically it can be from a faulty or bad start capacitor for the larger blower motor. That problem would result in a noise only at startup. Our noise was constant the entire time the furnace blower was spinning. After cleaning everything out with a shop vac, i then use compressed air to blow all the insides of the motors out too. Then i cleaned off the blades of the blower fan. And lastly i used 3-in-1 oil and WD-40 to lubricate all the bearings and drive shafts that i could reach. The noise went away and we haven't heard it in 3 weeks. Hopefully it was just some dirt/sawdust that got in there and isn't the start of a bigger problem like a bad bearing or motor going bad.
